What did ya do today?

Had a 10 minute deluge that was a sight to see. My grandfather would have called it a toad-strangler.

Sun came out and skies were clear an hour later.

It washed out a couple of spots in the driveway, so I swapped the stump grinder for a box blade and leveled it all back out.

Another perfect Saturday I pulled out of the closet of perfect Saturdays. Playing on a tractor is never work.

Not for me.

I'm often asked how I'm finding retirement, and my reply is "life is like a closet full of perfect Saturdays".

It could be sitting around in a robe like the Big Lebowski sipping White Russians (metaphorically - I don't drink). It could be working hard outside in the crisp fall air. Taking the wife out to dinner or the art museum. Mowing the yard or straightening up a workbench and listening to a podcast. It could be reading a book and smoking a cigar.

I wake up, look outside, and then browse through my "closet of perfect Saturdays", and pick one (or two, or three).

Watched this guy watching me watching him. Can't grow a wildflower meadow if the deer keep eating them.

Yesterday: Hammered down another short story… more work on it needs doing but it's only a draft. Wore me out some.
