From the Midwest to the East Coast, and back again.
Swimming among schools of semis both way, but the easiest passage across The City (and out again) we’ve had.

Spent the last 6 weeks clearing fence line when the weather permits. It's overgrown with poison ivy, wild grapevine, and Virginia creeper - all tangled up in the fence and strangling most of the trees. Cutting barbed wire strands, cutting overgrowth, pulling fenceposts, and cutting trees to save the biggest and healthiest (and not troublesome like Bradford pear (invasive) and Honey locust (thorny). Tedious work, but 250 feet are done and about 300 to go.

We've been watching a barred owl in the yard land on the ground, fly back up into wood line, land on the ground, fly back up into the wood line, lather, rinse, repeat.

It's odd behavior that we hadn't quite figured out.

This evening, there were two of them doing it.

Turns out they're juveniles, eating crickets or frogs or whatever they happen to spy from their nest.

I thought we were watching them, but that one is apparently very alert - like his head is on a swivel or something.

Stayed up with the wife to see if we could see the "light show" from the solar flares hitting the earth's magnetic field.

No such luck, and it's well past my bed time!

Day whatever of this year's fence row clearing project.

    How it started

    Projects - 1.jpeg

    How it's going

    Projects - 2.jpeg

    How it'll end up.

    Projects - 3.jpeg

The corner of the field was a challenge. The trees were growing up with their branches intertwined, and as noted before... secured to each other with wild grape vines, poison ivy vines and Virginia creeper to a lesser extent.

Among those were the thorny locusts (4 of them), leaning over the driveway. There was a lot of roping, cutting and pulling to get them to all fall in the corner of the field where they'll be burned - because wherever they end up will be littered with 6" thorns that can easily puncture a tire.

A whole lot of looking out the window at gray skies and sporadic showers - too wet to do anything...

But, it's baby bunny season. They've left the nest, and go from the size of a big orange or small grapefruit to full grown in a couple of weeks - and they're all over the place.

This guy hangs around outside the shop eating clover. He thinks I can't see him.

    More rain, more baby bunnies.

This one figured out a way to get out of the rain.

I have been cataloguing my two garden journals… too lazy for anything else. We used to grow a lot more produce, even had fruit trees.

It's when traffic is heavy in the line for Sams Club pizza.

Me with the wife at Sams: "Where'd all these friggin' people come from!?!?!?!"
    Wife: "It's Saturday, honey".
